Høringssvar

To whom it may concern; I heard recently from the caretakers at my children’s Fritids center, Vor Fru, that there is a discussion to possibility close the center due to financial difficulties. As a result, I felt compelled to write this letter in support to keep the center open. We have two children, Lukas (10) and Kira (7) who both attend the Vor Fru fritids center and they are very happy there. They especially like the wood workshop at the center as well as the outside green park area in the backyard of their church, which is an oasis for children living in downtown Copenhagen. Unfortunately, green spaces and a creative atmosphere where children can be free to experiment are fewer and fewer which is essential to become creative and innovative members of society. We visited several ‘åben skole’ centers in the downtown city and I was shocked at the noise level due to having so many children in such small spaces. I was also disappointed to see how little activity there was at these centers. As an American living in Copenhagen, I have long admired the Danish openness and I have been amazed at how easily Danes adapt to different social situations. I strongly believe that this ability is rooted in the Danish tradition to expose people to many cultures and offering handcraft at an early age. This quality is especially strong at Vor Fru where the kids come from a broad background of cultures and are encouraged to experiment in the different activities and workshops available at the center. At a time when the discussion is about how to provide a strong foundation for our children to compete in a global marketplace, Vor Fru sets the example that other fritid centers should follow. I think it would be a terrible shame to close this cultural institution where children are provided with the tools to explore their potential and to learn to become better citizens. I strongly encourage your committee not to close the Vor Fru Fritids center. Best regards, Frank Zadi
